If you have been running Pupil Tracking prior to version 4 and have not already disabled anonymous login you can do so by navigating to User Manager > Disable anonymous login. If you have already disabled anonymous login this option will no longer be available.
Currently your system allows users to login anonymously i.e. without an account linked to a unique email address. Once you have setup individual 'Admin' and 'Teacher' accounts on your system it is a good idea to remove these anonymous accounts.
By clicking 'Disable' the following will happen:
- All user accounts that don't use an email address as their username when logging in will be removed. For example, it will no longer be possible to login with the username 'mathematics'. Note that in the case of subject logins, the subject's data will not be affected. Only the subject user account
- The role 'Subject' will be removed
- All references to subject usernames and passwords will be removed from the user interface as they will no longer be relevant
- When creating a new subject, a username and password will no longer be required. Instead, individual 'Teacher' accounts should be edited to allow access to that subject
- The current campaign subscribers table will be emptied, and the signup link will be removed from the user interface. Moving forward, staff can subscribe to campaign email alerts by ticking the appropriate setting under 'My account'
- The current subject privileges table will be emptied and all links to that functionality will be removed from the user interface. Moving forward, teachers can be given access to other subjects through their user account and can access these subjects under 'My Subjects'
- All favourites linked to user ids that no longer exist will be removed. Moving forward, favourites will be linked to individual user accounts. This means that no matter which computer or browser the user uses to login, their favourites will be available. This is true as soon as the teacher starts using their own account to login
Important. Disabling anonymous login as absolutely the right thing to do if you have decided to move to teacher level accounts. However, the process cannot be reversed. Once disabled you cannot go back to anonymous logins.
